North American Hardcourt (NAH) began as a group of 24 players from across the United States and Canada, joined in their dedication to improving organization and raising the profile of hardcourt bike polo. In late 2009, these players selected Madison, Wisconsin, to host the 2010 North American Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships. The Madison Championships ultimately became the largest hardcourt bike polo tournament to that date, and represented a major step forward for the burgeoning sport in North America.
During 2010, NAH also collaborated with existing hardcourt bike polo clubs from across the continent to establish a representational structure of 7 North American regions, each electing 3 player-representatives to constitute the NAH leadership. The elected NAH leadership constructed the current 2011 NAH Tour: a series of 7 regional tournaments to qualify top hardcourt bike polo players and teams for competition at the 2011 North American Championships in Calgary, Alberta.
By the start of 2011, the existing NAH representatives recognized the need for a formal organization, and elected one representative from each regional to form the first NAH board of directors. In March 2011, the initial board directed the establishment of the North American Hardcourt Bike Polo Association (NAHBPA) as a non-profit corporation. The board of directors then called for new NAHBPA elections.
The 2011 NAHBPA members (regional representatives) and directors are as follows:
